FLINDERS RANGES

After leaving Peterborough and Orreroo we head to Hawker.  Little disappointed, thought there would be more in the town, but it was sufficient to point us in the right direction for a good spot to stay a couple of days.  Stopped for 3 nights at a station stay, Rawnesley Park,  very nice, large and heaps and heaps of vans.  The walls of Wilpena Pound are just over behind us, we feel we could reach out and touch them.
We have used this as a base to visit all the sites in the Flinders Ranges.  Bunyeroo Gorge and Brachina Gorge, absolutely mind blowing, thought they were more impressive than the actual Willpena Pound.
The gorges are a"geological corridor through time - 400,000 to 480,000 million years"  We huffed and puffed our way to the top of the wall to a viewing site to see Wilpena Pound (I was expecting something different, can't say from where we were it inspired me very much.  Maybe there are other better places to view it).  Visited Blinman today, where there is a copper mine from back in the late 1800.  Travelled across to Parachilna, lucky enough to be on the spot when an ore train went  through, 161 ore wagons, it completely blocked the horizon, on it's way to Port Augusta.  Beaut lunch and morning tea at Blinman, a Quondong pie and cream plus coffee, then the BEST pastry on homemade meat pie.  Yummy.  Lots and lots of wallabies and emus, plus Don saw 5 camels at Blinman which beats the camel I saw driving through Cowra.   In all it's been a very interesting stay here in the Flinders.  It did rain yesterday but it didn't spoil the day for us. I could just go on and on taking photos of creek beds with the most gorgeous large gum trees.  The roots are gnarled and exposed, how they survive where they grow, no soil in site.  It must be a sight when it really rains and all the creek beds are flowing, everywhere we go we cross floodways, lost count of them and creek beds.   A few photos for you.

This ridge on top of mountain is called Great Wall of China
