FIRST DAY

Finally 1st May has arrived. We think it's been about 16 months that this trip has been in the planning stage, and now that we have left home to start the BIG TRIP it feels a little unreal.

Left this morning about 9.45am, heading down the New England highway for Scone.  Stopped off on our way to catch Graeme and Liz at murrurundi where we had a very expensive quick lunch $11.00 for 2 pies.

After Scone it was west to Merriwa, heading to Ulan after that. We thought we'd have our first overnight in a free camp site beside the Gregory River, either someone has taken the sign or we missed it. Maybe it's not there any more because it's a huge coal mine area around where the site was supposed to be. SO we kept going to Gulgong and have landed in an "iffy" caravan park for our first stop. I say "iffy" because there's a lot of permanents, mine workers and not many tourists. BUT it won't bother us because we're all cosy in our van.

First stop to fill up tank and Autumn gold beside our van in Gulgong
